Own equipment for the climbing camp in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia

The foundation covered the cost of climbing equipment for patient Lukka, enabling him to take part in a climbing camp in Czechia.

Lukka sent us a wonderful travel report, which we are happy to share with his permission:

My climbing camp in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia

Thanks to the support of the Halle Saale Children's Cancer Foundation, which covered the costs of my climbing equipment, I was able to fulfill a big wish and go to the annual climbing camp in Czechia. Thank you very much once again!

On Sunday, June 29, my climbing group traveled by car to Ústí nad Labem. The journey went smoothly for the most part, apart from a few minor navigation problems in rural areas and the challenging road conditions 😊

After arriving, we set up camp at a nearby, beautiful campsite. Despite the summer heat, the atmosphere was excellent. In the evening, we made ourselves comfortable around the campfire and, of course, went swimming in the lake.

The first day of climbing took us to the sandstone area near Tisá. After a brief introduction to the special features of the rock there (especially how to use knot slings), we tackled our first routes, which were of low to medium difficulty. I was very nervous at first, but thanks to my climbing partner, Frederick, I gradually overcame my fears.

On the third day, the focus was on belaying techniques, setting up belay stations, and using mobile belay devices. In the afternoon, we worked on individual projects in small groups. To recharge our batteries, the group went on a hike to a viewpoint. The weather was perfect, offering an impressive view over the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

On the penultimate day, we tackled the more challenging routes. In addition to the physical challenge, the mental component was also at the forefront. But I managed everything and am of course very proud!

On Friday, July 4, the camp was dismantled and we began our journey home. Despite physical exhaustion, the mood was great. Everyone enjoyed the week and another climbing camp is planned for next year.

The climbing camp in Ústí nad Labem was a complete success for me. The combination of scenic surroundings, athletic challenges, and good group dynamics made the week an unforgettable experience for me.

Everyone was able to improve their skills, learn new techniques, and gain valuable experience in sandstone climbing.

But I have one wish for next time: please, not only vegetarian food 😊.

We are very happy that Lukka enjoyed himself and learned a lot.
